Foo Fighters - Generator

The Foo Fighters song Generator from their album "There Is Nothing Left To Lose", with a few photos i put together.

Verse 1
Lately Im getting better
Wish I could stay sick with you
But theres too many egos left to bruise
Call it sin
You can call it whatever
Eating deep inside of you
Well if it were me its all Id ever do

Steal me now and forever
Ill steal something good for you
The criminal in me is no-one new

Till you find something better
When theres nothing left to use
And everything starts going down on you

Chorus
Im the generator
Firing whenever you quit
Yeah, whatever it is
You go out and its on
Yeah cant you hear my motored heart
Youre the one that started it

Verse 2
Send me out on a tether
Swing it round
Ill spin your noose
You let it down
Ill hang around with you
Till you find someone better
When theres no-one left to lose
Everyone keeps going down

What we understand to be the power generator set can be split into many ranges and varied products, which might include the diesel, electrical or petrol powered generator, a common sight in many work sites all over the world. You might know quite a bit about them already, and that they work on the basis of the combustion internal engine, much like the one found under the hood of a car. What is going to happen is that you need to know the intricate details of how the engine really works and how similar it is. Of course, there are going to be subtle differences at the end of the day, on how this thing is going to affect you and how this is going to enlighten you as well, so it is best that you pay a little attention to the article and learn a little on how the power generator actually works at the end of the day., This is a learning article, one that will help you to know a little more about one of the most common portable power solutions in the world today.

Now, I want you to think of the idea of a dynamo, and really, this is how things started out. The dynamo is something that generates its own power source, normally based on kinetic energy, and if you look at the modern day bicycle, you would know that most of the time, this is based on that. When the cyclist pedals on the bicycle and he turns the wheel, he is generating quite a bit of electrical energy, in the form of kinetic energy, just as much as a small battery would at the end of the day, in a low consumption product. Now within the dynamo are small motors and a generator, which channels and connects the kinetic motion of the wheels to the production of electricity at the end of it all, and this is something that you have to be aware of. One of the first dynamos was produced as early as the early 17th century, and this was done through the experimentation of rotating electro magnets, and the guy behind it, one Mr Jedlik, noticed that at the end of the day, there was a mighty production of electricity from doing this. What happens in that equation was that he had placed two opposing magnets which had been charged and placed a single pole electrical starter in between them, with connections based on wires? The magnetic field that was produced in between those to cause the rotor to move and thus, the idea of self generating power was then produced. This was one of the first permutations of the dynamo, and it has influenced the production of the dynamo till this day and age, and this is something you need to be aware of. Of course, there were other developments, which we ill be looking at, that influenced the power generator set.

Plans for Ireland's first geothermal generator - RTE.ie

A planning application has been lodged with South Dublin County Council to construct Ireland's first geothermal electricity generation plant.

The company behind the project, GT Energy, said its proposed facility at Newcastle could provide enough electricity to power 8,000 homes.

Geothermal energy involves extracting hot water and steam from the earth's core by drilling boreholes deep underground - a technology widely used in places like Iceland.

GT Energy started test drilling at the site in 2007 and investigative work resumed earlier this year.

If the project secures planning and licences, drilling of the wells will begin early next year, with generation starting in 2012.

GT Energy's Padraig Hanly estimates the development will cost around €30m and said the company is receiving technical assistance from ESB International.

When making the decision to purchase a generator, there are several things that must be considered to make sure that the variety being purchased will work for the intended use. Prior to making the purchase, be sure to consider the type, the size, the speed, and the output of the generator as this will help in making the best choice.

The first item that should be considered is the type. While there are generators powered by gasoline, diesel, or petrol, the choice that is made is dependent on the price of the unit as well as the operating costs. Gasoline is the most cost effective type, but petrol generators cost less at purchase with much more expensive operating costs. Typically, choosing a petrol generator is a good choice for household use because they also have lower nitrous oxide emissions and the noise produced is much more tolerable than the other types.

Another factor to consider is the size of the generator that will be needed to power all of the essential appliances in the home. The minimum size can be determined by adding up all the power needed for each appliance, however the size that is actually purchased should exceed this amount as to make sure everything runs smoothly. Only fifty percent of the output level should be used at any given time to prevent damage to the mechanics in the home.

When choosing a petrol generator, the speed may also be a factor in the purchase because those that operate at higher speeds tend to not last as long as those that operate at lower speeds. The higher speed generators are also much lower priced since they wear out much sooner. Upon considering whether to purchase a single phase or three phase generator, the single phase varieties are frequently the better choice for most homeowners because they operate all of the typical household appliances, whereas three phase generators are used primarily in industrial locations.

After making all of these decisions, the only thing left to decide on when choosing a petrol generator is the brand. While just about every well known brand name is quite reliable, from Briggs and Stratton to Amico, the overall choice should be made based on the availability of parts and service in the local area. If all of these specifics are considered, the most suitable generator for the job will be chosen and put to good use.

Driving style can have a big effect on the amount of fuel you use, consequently having an effect on the CO2 emissions the vehicle produces, and how much you spend. It has been estimated by the "Act on CO2" Government campaign that just by following these guidelines alone you could save up to one month's worth of fuel over the year - making a big difference to annual CO2 emissions and massively reducing your financial expenditure.

If all the drivers in the UK followed these tips, it has also been estimated that yearly CO2 emissions could be reduced by as much as 5.5 billion tonnes, saving over £2 billion in fuel at current prices.

1) Pump it up

Under inflated tires create more resistance when a vehicle is moving which means the engine has to work harder and burns more fuel. Making sure your tires are at the right pressure really helps both fuel economy and CO2 emission levels. Please remember though that over inflating tires can be dangerous so do take car to check that you have the correct tire pressures set for the vehicle you drive.

2) Keep it Light

Extra weight in the car means that, again, the engine has to work harder. Removing any unnecessary clutter from boot or back seat of the vehicle will reduce the weight. In addition remove any roof racks, bike carriers or roof boxes from the vehicle when not in use as these not only increase the weight but also reduce the aerodynamics causing drag, further reducing fuel efficiency.

3) Cruise Along

The most energy efficient speed for most vehicles is 56mph, (where permitted). Travelling at this speed can save 35% more fuel than travelling at 70mph. Keeping your speed constant also helps, as a general rule of thumb a 1 unit increase in speed requires a 3 unit increase in power consumption.

4) Think Ahead

Each time a vehicle stops and starts at traffic lights, traffic jams etc the engine wastes more fuel. Plan out your journey, listening for traffic jams on the radio or using a Sat-navigation or vehicle tracking system to not only get to your destination easier, quicker and less stressed but also save on fuel.

5) Keep It Healthy

The most efficient vehicle is one that is kept in good condition, with a tuned well running engine; keeping your car in good shape is very important. A good idea is to Hire a Car on a long term lease rather than buy your own, as a service contract is often included, in addition you could replace your vehicle when renewing the contract. To find a suitable contract vehicle you can use an online tool like this one: Find A Car which allow you to find the most suitable vehicle for your use.

6) Race on the Race Track

Modern vehicles are designed to be efficient with lower rpm and so over revving or changing gears at a higher rev reduces fuel economy. Drivers of petrol fuelled cars should be looking to change gear at around 2500rpm; diesel drivers at around 2000rpm.

7) Smooth Driving

Try not to accelerate and brake suddenly (unless you really have to) - this uses much more fuel than a gradual accelerating and braking.

Anticipating what is going to happen in front of you will help you to achieve these things.

8) Don't be Idle

If you are going to be stationary for more than 30 seconds, switch your engine off rather than leaving it to idle as it costs less fuel to turn off and on again than keeping it "ticking over" for longer than 30 seconds, saving cash and precious CO2.

9) Power Down

Use fewer electrics, the less electrical power you are generating the less strain on the engine and the better your fuel economy. Air conditioning and lights during the day all contribute as do charging your mobile, using a portable media player plugged into the power or other extraneous electrics.

#131 - Generator HHO run time tests, Part 1 of 4

For latest news please visit my web site http://www.alt-nrg.org/ In this mini-series I attempt to answer the age old question posed by our critics "Are we on the right track or just spinning our wheels?" For this test I am using a gasoline powered AC generator. This is the ideal platform to test with because it's carbeureted. No fuel injection ECU, O2, MAF, etc to deal with. No EFIE required. ========================================-========= I have collected the data. You be the judge.

Solar Stirling Engine Generator

@PatGirvin hi sir> volts by itself tells us nothing ,,, how much amps does it give ? the power is the important thing , if you want to know the efficiency roughly? you can calculate the area of your lens and i heard each meter squared of area has about 1000 watts shining on it in good sunshine. so workout by proportion... then subtract your lens and generator efficiencies and you'll be able to work out your engine efficiency

Atlanta-based indie rock group Deerhunter is coming for a free concert in Chicago this Saturday.

Where exactly that concert will be held is up to you to figure out.

Urban Outfitters and Levi's are teaming up to sponsor the "Secret Generator Series," a string of concerts in selected cities whose locations will stay undisclosed until just before the start time.

Instead, the Secret Generator Series blog is posting photos, one at a time, of the venue, and encouraging savvy readers to try to figure it out.

The catch is this: the concerts are powered only by a portable generator (hence the name), so they could be held anywhere in the city. Don't expect the answer to be Millennium Park.

So far, the blog has released two photo clues for where the Deerhunter concert this weekend will take place. From the looks of things, it's near some segment of the river, and by a highway overpass.

Click here for the hint photos.
